Do we have a cake thread that i might have missed. More and more people attempt their own birthday cakes and as a novice I look around for inspiration and tips, and think it would be great to have a thread showcasing everyones effort at cake making.
I've spent all weekend doing a princess belle , will go take a photo and upload it in a minute!

I made a reese's peanut butter cup cake this weekend if anyone would like the recipe? Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting around the sides and middle, peanut butter frosting on top. It went down a treat with my friends.
Decorating isn't my thing, but I love baking and making them yummy. If you're looking for general baking cakes tips, I'd say always always sift everything - icing sugar, flour, cocoa, all of it.0 -

The belle cake is 4 8" sponge cakes and sponge cooked in a pyrex bowl. The domed sponge from the bowl is sliced in half. With a pastry cutter cut a hole in the middle of all the layers then fill and stack with the dome on top. Freezed for 20 mins then with a serrated knife shape the cake to make the shape of the ballgown. I then gave it a butter icing crumb coat, chilled, then a fondant layer. I made the frills by cutting circles with a serrated edge, slice in half and then used a pen to roll it out to soften the serrated edge. The doll is wrapped naked in cling film and stands in the hole. The icing is then piped on to make a bodice.0

Wow your cake is lovely - how long did that take you to make - it looks perfect!
I too love to bake cakes - I'm into making face cakes (cakes with edible photos on top). I've also made some lovely chocolate cakes - see below a snapshot of some of my creations - it's addictive, isn't it?
